Frederik Meijer Gardens Excursion
I have always wanted to visit the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, and today I finally did! Yay!
I was especially lucky because they just opened a new Jaume Plensa exhibit. He uses text, human figure, letters, found objects, light, and sound in his sculptural works.
The F.M. Gardens’ website described that Plensa’s work,
“…explores the role of language, text and communication through sculpture. Most important is how the artist leads us to a greater understanding of what unites humanity.”
Several of Plensa’s sculptures are semi-transparent, which make their surroundings and environment an integral part of the viewer’s experience. A series of human figures created from all cut out type letters were a real treat. mmmm.
Oh, and a sidenote, check out the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park logo. I love it. You might hate it.
