Exhibit Design Consultants Tour

Today, our class was lucky enough to score a tour of Exhibit Design Consultants with Mike Morris. He talked briefly about designing for large formats and exhibits.

Several of the students in our class will be working on creating some large format pieces for a fundraising event this coming spring. Mike stressed the importance of keeping large format pieces simple. A billboard is not an appropriate medium to communicate a lot of specific information. There are several other mediums, formats, and venues for that type of communication.

Exhibit pieces need to be site specific. It is important to make sure to consider the space you are working with, as well as how many people will be in the space at the time of the exhibit. You should think about where the type is placed, so that the piece can communicate even when the room is full of people. The colors in the space are also important. Mike referenced putting a red poster on a red wall—pointless, right?

On a lighter note, Mike talked about the importance of working well with others and keeping a positive attitude. In a fast-paced business that relies completely on deadlines, having a team that works together is a must. Great advice, Mike, thank you so much!
